A separate staple of spring / summer 2014 is the crop top, which may seem a bit of a disastrous prospect for those of us who aren’t abdominal blessed. However, there are many versatile ways to style short tops, which could prompt you to try this potentially scary trend.
This season, the peas and stripes will be huge, so jump on the moving train early and grab a short striped top to make sure you’re at the front of the fashion pack. It is true that stripes are notoriously blamed for adding inches to even the slimmest figure, but in fact it all depends on the type of stripes you will swing.
Horizontal stripes in particular have been painted as the curvy girl’s lowest enemy, but new research has shown that horizontal stripes can actually make her slimmer. Stick to darker colors and wider stripes if you’re bent or busty and want to minimize, and thinner stripes with a white background if you feel you need a boost.
If you are a little afraid to show yourself too much, a short striped top will look fabulous, paired with a pair of short denim overalls, which are also (handmade!) Bang on the trend for spring / summer 2014. Bolder girls can combine their striped tops with skirts and shorts. Do it like Beyonce in a tight pencil skirt or opt for the more romantic option of a tulle skirt in a light, summery shade. Pleated skirts will also be big this coming season, so you can pair your striped short top with a flirty pleated skirt that will set you on trend.
To bring the subjects together, just remember the rule of the old way: dark colors dilute or attract attention away from the parts of your body, and light colors do the opposite, marking all the areas that you want to show. If you are really brave, try mixing your striped crop top with prints.
